Augusta “Gussie ” Ramirez born March 9, 1932 in Oakland, CA. went into the arms of Jesus in the early morning on February 7, 2020 at Doctors Hospital in Manteca. She went peacefully and was surrounded by family and friends. Gussie was 87 years of age.
She was a homemaker most of her life caring for her children and a childcare provider. She was employed later in life at Middleton Welding Supply, and at a CT center. She enjoyed volunteering at her church for children’s ministry programs as well as a voter registration assistant. She truly enjoyed spending time with her children, grandchildren, great grandchildren and friends. She was known for bringing her Green Jello Salad to family celebrations.
Some hobbies she enjoyed were bowling, square dancing, collecting dolls and antiques. She also enjoyed playing bingo, games of any kind, listening to Christian Country Music, dining out, particularly Chinese Food and participating in other activities at the Senior Center. In her early years as a young mom, she loved to sew, and made matching outfits for her family. She had a big loving heart and willing to help any member of her family. Because of her loving heart, her children and grandchildren learned to love and share hugs.
She was born to Walter Nicholas Batteate and Amy Johanna Hurschmann. She was predeceased by both parents, her husband Fortunato Ramirez, her brother Walter Batteate, two children Debra Suzanne. Holland and George Thomas Weissman and a great granddaughter Tiffany Ortiz. She is survived by her previous husband Al Weissman, her children Cindy, Nick, Marie, and Paula. She is also survived by 18 grandchildren and 33 great grandchildren and one great-great grandchild.
There is a viewing on Wednesday, February 12 th from 2pm to 8pm., at Parkview Cemetery, 3661 French Camp Road, Manteca, CA. There will be a graveside service the following morning, Thursday, February 13 th at 11 AM, at Chapel of the Chimes, 32992 Mission Blvd., Hayward, CA. There will be no reception at this time. At a later date the family is planning a Celebration of Life.
In lieu of flowers Gussie’s wish was to please donate to St. Judes Children’s Hospital on her behalf.
